Is there a bridge toll for Coronado?
No. The toll was removed in June 2002. There is no longer any toll for the bridge that connects San Diego and Coronado.

How long does it take to get to the airport?
From Coronado, the drive to the San Diego International Airport at Lindbergh Field is about 20 minutes, depending upon traffic. You are advised to check with your airline with regard to how much time you should allow yourself to arrive before your flight.

What’s the weather like in Coronado?
Coronado enjoys perfect weather nearly year-round, even though it may not always appear that way in the morning. Even if a day starts out with a heavy cloud cover, you can usually expect sunshine by mid-morning. Because of its proximity to the ocean, Coronado is usually a few degrees cooler than San Diego. Morning and evenings can be chilly, even in summer. A long pair of pants, a jacket and sunscreen are recommended no matter what time of year you visit. Humidity is usually comfortably low and it rains infrequently.

Daily weather can be found in the San Diego Union-Tribune or by watching any of the local television newscasts. For current weather conditions, call 619.289.1212.

What is a Santa Ana?
A Santa Ana is a weather condition which occurs in Southern California anytime from September through April and is characterized by winds of at least 25 mph and unseasonably warm temperatures. Santa Ana conditions normally only last a few days at a time, but can have a serious effect on those who suffer from asthma or allergies.

Can I tour a military base in Coronado?
While Coronado is home to two Naval bases: North Island Naval Air Station and the Naval Amphibious Base, public tours of the bases are not available. To enter a U.S. military base, you must have proper military identification and a base decal on your vehicle. Old Town Trolley Tours of San Diego offers a SEAL Tour which takes you onto the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego and offers vantage points which include views of the U.S. Navy Aircraft Carriers stationed at North Island. For information and pricing, please call Old Town Trolley Tours at 619-298-8687.

What are some ways to get around Coronado?
There are several transportation options in Coronado. Walking is popular because of our temperate weather and the fact that Coronado is mostly level. You can walk from the Hotel Del Coronado to Coronado Ferry landing in about an hour. A cab ride from the Visitor Center to Coronado Ferry Landing will run you approximately $5 while Coronado Pedicab Co. will do the work for you via covered bicycle coach for $5 per person. The San Diego Metropolitan Transit Board runs a city bus. The bus that runs from Imperial Beach (the city south of Coronado) into downtown San Diego is the #904. Most bus connections can be made on Broadway in San Diego. The bus schedule is available in the Visitor Center. The Coronado Shuttle which makes stops in Coronado can be reached at 800-409-3310. Driving is relatively easy although traffic tends to be tough around 7:30 am (morning rush hour) and 3:00 pm (afternoon rush hour) for Navy personnel who commute from San Diego.

Where can I park?
Coronado Island Ferry Landing offers free parking when you visit its shops and restaurants. In the downtown area, there is metered parking available on Orange Avenue, as well as some of the side streets. Most meters are $.25 for an hour with a two-hour limit. There is no charge to park after 6:00 pm on weekdays. Parking along Ocean Boulevard, near Coronado City Beach is free, but tends to fill up quickly, especially in the summer.

Is there a local newspaper?
The local newspaper, the Coronado Eagle & Journal is a weekly community newspaper which publishes every Wednesday. They can be reached at (619) 437-8800.

The San Diego Union-Tribune is San Diego's daily newspaper. It publishes 7 days a week. Call (619) 299-3131.

Is there a Coronado TV station?
Cox Communications offers Coronado Channel 19 which offers a mix of community programming and information.

How is Coronado governed? Is it part of San Diego?
Coronado is not part of San Diego. It is its own city and is governed by a Mayor and City Council. Tom Smisek is the current Mayor of Coronado. The City Council is comprised of the Mayor and City Councilmembers: Phil Monroe, Carrie Downey, Casey Tanaka and Frank Tierney. For more information, please visit www.coronado.ca.us.
