When you come to Coronado, you set the pace. Coronado can accommodate visitors who prefer to keep a full schedule or those who just want to relax. Following is a menu of activity ideas to get you started.

ART

Art-in-the-Park

Hours are 9 am to 4 pm, first and third Sundays of each month. Spreckels Park turns into an outdoor art gallery. Whether you just want to browse or if you're looking for a fabulous new piece of art to take home, this is the place to find it.

Open Thursday through Sunday, no appointments necessary. Select an unfinished ceramic piece and paint it. After you are done, the piece is coated with a clear glaze and fired in a kiln. The finished piece is ready in just a few days. Private party area can accommodate 8 to 15 guests. Packages start at $12 per person.

Learn about Coronado's rich and wonderful history with a visit to the one-of-a-kind Museum of History and Art. The Museum's galleries highlight Coronado's settlers, its friendship with the U.S. Navy, the landmark Hotel del Coronado and special exhibits connected to Coronado's history and art.

Sample some of the freshest fruit and vegetables Coronado has to offer. With the downtown San Diego skyline in the background, the market is the perfect place to spend an afternoon and pick up a healthy bargain or two.

April: Coronado Flower Show – The population swells as gardeners and flower lovers come to town for the largest flower show under a tent on the West Coast. MotorCars on MainStreet, Friends of the Coronado Library Book Fair, Art-in-the-Park, the Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast and the School of the Arts Village Home Tour are just a few of the activities you can participate in that weekend. May - September: Coronado's Summer Concert Series in Spreckels Park, Sunday evenings Memorial Day through Labor Day offers a wonderful excuse to gather with friends to picnic and listen to music in the warm summer evenings. Free and open to the public. The schedule is usually published in mid-May and is posted on this website as soon as it is made available.

July: Fourth of July Celebration brings a day jam-packed with activities to celebrate being an American. The highlight is the annual parade with more than 150 bands floats and groups. Other festivities include a fun run/walk, rough water swim, Art-in-the-Park, Fourth of July concert in Spreckels Park. World events have affected the certainty of the U.S. Navy SEALs demonstration. Please call the Visitor Center (619) 437-8788 for current information. The day concludes with a spectacular fireworks finale over the bay, set to music.

October: The Chrysler Classic Speed Festival brings together 200 of the world's top racing machines to compete on a 1.6 mile course on the taxiways of NAS North Island. December: Holiday Parade and Open House is scheduled for the first Friday in December. Santa arrives on the 4:20p.m. ferry at the Ferry Landing and joins the festivities at Snow Mountain, 5-8:30pm. The Holiday Parade starts from Eighth Street and continues down Orange Avenue, ending at R.H. Dana Place, 6-7p.m. Best viewing is along Orange Avenue. A city fire truck delivers Santa to Rotary Park (on Orange Avenue) so he can light the city's 75-foot star pine at 7 p.m., followed by a Community Band concert on the median near Rotary Park. Stores stay open late (until 9 pm) so you can get a jump on your holiday shopping. Fireworks over the bay at 8:30 p.m. complete this signature event. Sponsored by the Coronado Chamber of Commerce. THEATER

Coronado Playhouse

The Strand Way home of Coronado Playhouse was demolished in September 2003 as part of the Glorietta Bay project. The temporary site for the Coronado Playhouse is now located at the Ferry Landing.

Lamb's Players Theatre

Lamb's Players Theatre, a professional, non-profit theatre group, has a regular season of five productions from February through November with an additional Christmas production in December. Lamb's Players Theatre has been in Coronado since 1994.

TOURS

Hotel del Coronado Tour
The Coronado Museum of History and Art offers a one hour, docent led tour of this wonderful Hotel and its history.  We are the only tour allowed by the Hotel del Coronado to go inside the hotel.  Make reservations through the Coronado Visitors Center by calling (619) 437-8788.  Fee is $15. - Tours run Tuesdays at 10:30 AM and Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 2 PM
Promenade Through the Past Walking Tour
Departs from the lobby of the Museum of History and Art, 1100 Orange Ave, Wed., 2:00 p.m. and Fri., 10:30 a.m. Learn about some of Coronado’s famous buildings and architectural sites, including Tent City resort, pictured above. Tour fee includes “Promenade Through the Past—A Walking Tour Guidebook of Coronado” and covers admission into the Museum of History and Art. $10.

Gondola Company Tour
The Gondola Company, located at Loews Coronado Bay Resort, 4000 Coronado Bay Road offers cruises from 11 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. Cruises are approximately one hour. All cruises include a complimentary hors d'oeuvre or dessert plate. Blankets, an ice bucket, and wine glasses are provided. You may bring your own beverage.

Coronado Tree Tour

A 90-minute guided tour of Coronado's prominent park by a local arborist.
