Coronado's July 4th parade on Orange Avenue
Coronado has major events in every season of the year that can be
enjoyed by the whole family.

 
January
Coronado Arts Ball
Open to one and all, this evening of fun and fundraising benefits the Coronado Historical Association's annual Art Walk. The event includes entertainment, dinner and silent auction offering a wide range of art and packages of entertainment and recreation.

March
SUPERFROG Triathlon
Designed by Navy SEALs, the SUPERFROG is the first and longest-running long distance triathlon, beginning on Coronado's Silver Strand beach. Hosted by Naval Special Warfare, the SUPERFROG is considered one of the toughest long distance triathlons around.

March-June
Grunion Runs
These silvery fish spawn on Southern California beaches on spring nights after the new and full moon. Bring a flashlight and observe this phenomenon. Fish can only be caught by hand, and no fish can be taken during the closed season between April and May to protect the species. 

April
Coronado Flower Show, Book Fair, MotorCars on MainStreet
The largest flower show in the west, Coronado's annual flower show draws thousands of gardening and flower enthusiasts to Spreckels Park. Several community events coincide with the Flower Show weekend including the massive Friends of the Library Book Fair and the classic car show, MotorCars on MainStreet.

May
Historic Home Tour
A Coronado tradition hosted by the Coronado Museum of History and Art, the annual home tour takes you inside some of Coronado's historically significant private homes. Tickets are required for this self-guided walking tour.

Memorial Day to Mid-September
The Promenade Concert in the Park Series
All-American fun and a beloved Coronado institution. Bring a picnic and join the crowd every Sunday evening in Spreckels Park. Admission is free.
Coronado Ferry Landing Summer Concerts
Enjoy the best view of San Diego from the Ferry Landing while listening to music from 2-4 pm every weekend.

June
Surf Dogs
The annual Loews Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog Competition is the nation's original surfing competition for man's best friend. Over 50 dogs take to the waves as spectators watch, raising money for the resort's non-profit partner, Modest Needs Foundation.

Coronado Rotary's Annual Low Tide Ride & Stride
Benefits Limbs of Freedom, and artificial limb clinic in Ensenada, Mexico and Wounded Warrior Battalion West, Camp Pendleton Armed Services YMCA. 8.2 mile course from Imperial Beach to Sunset Park.

July
Fourth of July Celebration
Coronado Independence Day activities kick off with a 15k Run/Walk at dawn. The day includes a rough-water swim at North Beach, the famous two-hour parade along Orange Avenue, Art-in-the-Park, a concert in Spreckels Park, and culminates with spectacular fireworks over Glorietta Bay. The parade will be broadcast on channel 19. The 2010 Independence Day Parade will be on Saturday July 3. Fireworks will be on July 4.

Coronado Recreation Department Activities
All summer long, the City of Coronado has events for the whole family including their Summer Recreation Series at the Community Center, the Summer Festival at the public library, outdoor movies at Tidelands Park and the annual Water Carnival in July. (619) 522-7342 

Optimist Club Sports Fiesta
Always held the last week in July, the Sports Fiesta features a 10K Run, an ocean swim, triathlon, skateboard contest and diving and golf skills competition. Sponsored by the Optimist Club of Coronado and the Family Gym.

Coronado History Drop-Ins
Free video presentations on Coronado history at 4:30 and 5:00 at the Museum of History and Art, 1100 Orange Ave.  July 1: The Historical Parks of Coronado; July 15: San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge 40th Anniversary, 1969-1009.

August
US Open Sandcastle Competition
August 6-8, the annual contest located just down the strand in Imperial Beach has attracted professionals from all over the country since 1990. Over 140 vendors set up for a weekend of entertainment, food, arts and crafts, and lots of fun. Sandcastle building begins at 9am on Sunday and sculptures are only available for viewing until 4:00pm due to tides.

Coronado History Drop-Ins
Free video presentations on Coronado history at 4:30 and 5:00 at the Museum of History and Art, 1100 Orange Ave.  August 5: Those Times at Tent City; August 12: Coronado, We Remember; August 19: The Historical Parks of Coronado.
 

Focus Family Festival
Sunday, August 15 from 11am-4pm, benefits children in San Diego County. Festivities include food from Coronado restaurants, shopping, children's activities and entertainment for the entire family. Admission: Adults $2, Children ages 4-12 $1.00, Children under age 4 free. Coronado Community Center, 1845 Strand Way

Bike the Bay - Ride the Coronado Bridge
Aug 29, 7 am. Non-competitive community bike ride for cyclists of all abilities along the Bayshore Bikeway. Registration required: 269-6873, www.bikethebay.net.

September
Coronado Art Walk
This annual celebration of the arts is a free, public event. Exhibits and entertainment are all over town including the central village from Orange Avenue down Park Place and around Star Park, in Spreckels Park and at the Coronado Ferry Landing.

The Annual Coronado MainStreet Garden Party
This community celebration that includes entertainment and food from Coronado's restaurants supports the Orange Avenue Median Gardens project.

Chrysler Classic Speed Festival
The annual car race is part of Fleet Week San Diego and takes over the runways of Naval Air Station North Island. This vintage auto race features over 200 classic cars racing on a spectator-friendly 1.6 mile course.

October
Downtown Goes Ghostly
Trick or treat throughout Coronado's downtown with local merchants handing out candy to kids in costumes. Sponsored by Coronado Main Street  .Halloween parties are also held at the Coronado Community Center and the Coronado Public Library.

November
J.R. Memorial Longboard Surf Classic
This annual surfing event at Coronado South Beach began in 1983 to honor local Jimmy Reilly. Proceeds support the CMS and CHS surf teams and a college scholarship.

Silver Strand Half Marathon and 5K race
Run, walk or skate from Coronado to Imperial Beach . Benefits the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

December
Holiday Celebration
The holiday season in Coronado starts the first Friday in December when Santa arrives by ferry at the Coronado Ferry Landing. A festive parade along Orange Avenue follows, while merchants keep their doors open late for shopping. Santa lights the 75-foot star pine Christmas tree located in the center of town as the community band plays holiday music. The evening finishes with fireworks over Glorietta Bay.

Skating by the Sea
The Hotel del Coronado offers a unique Southern California experience --- outdoor ice-skating overlooking the Pacific Ocean from late November through the first of January.

Annual Artisan's Alley Craft Fair
Village Elementary school is home for over 170 booths with gifts, art, crafts & food.

Annual San Diego Bay Parade of Lights
This traditional Christmas present to the cities on San Diego Bay from the boating community has a 1 -1½ hour procession of decorated boats that loop the bay and can be seen from the Coronado shoreline.

Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade
"America's Largest Balloon Parade" on Harbor Drive's bay-front.
