New Me 5K Fun Run/Walk and 1Mile Kid Run/Walk
January 5. Tidelands Park, presented by SD SoleMates.

February
Coronado Valentine's Day 10K and Fun Run
February 17: The 10K run starts and finishes at Tidelands Park.

March
SUPERSEAL Triathlon
March17, 2013: Designed by Navy SEALs, the SUPERSEAL is an International distance triathlon (1.5K swim / 40K bike / 10K run) plus the inaugural Sprint Triathlon (500m swim / 20K bike / 6K run).

16th Annual Jim Laslavic Charity Golf Tournament
March 22, 2013: Coronado Municipal Golf Course. Sponsored by the Coronado Rotary Club.
 

April
Coronado Flower Show and Book Fair April 20-21 The largest flower show in the west, Coronado's annual flower show, draws thousands of gardening and flower enthusiasts to Spreckels Park. Also this weekend is the huge annual Friends of the Libray Book Fair both days.

Arbor Day
April 27. Come plant a tree! Gather at 8:30am in Spreckels Park for refreshments and instructions. Bring work gloves and tree-planting shoes. Assignments and instructions at 9am. Tools are provided. 

MotorCars on MainStreet
April 28, the classic car show returns to Coronado. 

May
Historic Home Tour
May 13 A Coronado tradition hosted by the Coronado Museum of History and Art, the annual home tour takes you inside some of Coronado's historically significant private homes. Tickets are required for this self-guided walking tour.

26th Annual MWR Over the Bridge Run/Walk
May 20, 2012 26th annual Bay Bridge Run/Walk in support of Navy Region Southwest, Morale, Welfare and Recreation activities for sailors. This event is the only day of the year pedestrians are allowed to use the scenic bridge above San Diego Bay.

Memorial Day Commemoration
May 28 at Star Park. 10:00 am.  

June
Surf Dog Competition
June 16 The annual Loews Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog Competition is the nation's original surfing competition for man's best friend. Over 50 dogs take to the waves as spectators watch, raising money for Loew's Hotels' Good Neighbor Partner, DonorsChoose.org.

Coronado Rotary's Annual Low Tide Ride & Stride
June 24, 2012. Benefits San Diego military wounded warrier programs. 8.2 mile beach course from Imperial Beach to Sunset Park.  

July
Fourth of July Celebration
On Wed July 4, the Coronado Independence Day activities kick off with a 15k Run/Walk at dawn, and a rough-water swim at North Beach (9:00am). The famous two-hour parade along Orange Avenue begins at 10:00am at First St. and ends at Churchill Place. There are concerts in Spreckels Park at 4pm and at the Ferry Landing from 1-4pm, Art-in-the-Park displays all day, and spectacular fireworks at 9pm over Glorietta Bay.

Coronado Recreation Department Activities
All summer long, the City of Coronado has events for the whole family including their Summer Recreation Series at the Community Center, the Summer Festival at the public library, outdoor movies at Tidelands Park and the annual Water Carnival on July 9, 2011. (619) 522-7342

Historic Bicycle Tour
July 22 and August 19 at 9:30am. Coronado Historical Association docents lead a 2.5 hour, 6 mile leisurely bicycle tour of Coronado's historic neighborhoods. $35 per person; $50 per person includes bicycle rental. Reservations are required at (619) 435-7242.

Optimist Club Sports Fiesta
July 28-29, 2012 The annual Sports Fiesta features a 10K Run, an 1 mile rough water ocean swim, and triathlon. Sponsored by the Optimist Club of Coronado.

Bike the Bay - Ride the Coronado Bridge
Aug 26, 7 am. Non-competitive community bike ride for cyclists of all abilities along the Bayshore Bikeway. Registration required: (619) 269-6873, www.bikethebay.net.

March-August
Grunion Runs
These silvery fish spawn on Southern California beaches on spring nights after the new and full moon. Bring a flashlight and observe this phenomenon. Fish can only be caught by hand, and no fish can be taken during the closed season between April and May to protect the species.

Memorial Day to Mid-September
The Promenade Concert in the Park Series
May 27: The first 2012 concert of the beloved Coronado institution. Bring a picnic and join the crowd every Sunday evening in Spreckels Park. Admission is free

Coronado Ferry Landing Summer Concerts
Enjoy the best view of San Diego from the Ferry Landing while listening to music every summer weekend afternoon.

September
The Annual Coronado MainStreet Garden Party

September 7, 2013: The community celebration that includes entertainment and food from Coronado's restaurants and supports the Orange Avenue Median Gardens project.

Coronado Art Walk
September 14-15, 2013: This annual two-day celebration of the arts is a free, public event. Exhibits and entertainment are at the Coronado Ferry Landing.

Chrysler Classic Speed Festival
September 21-22, 2013: The 16th annual race that takes over the runways of Naval Air Station North Island is part of Fleet Week San Diego. This vintage auto race features over 200 classic cars racing on a spectator-friendly 1.6 mile course. Sneak-peek parade down Orange Ave is on Sept 19.

 

Superfrog Triathlon
September 29, 2013: The 34rd annual Naval Special Warfare long distance triathlon (1.2 mile swim / 56 mile bike / 13.1 mile run). 
   
October
Hotel and Motel Open House: October 5-6, 11am-4pm. All Coronado lodgings are open during the second annual free event. Enjoy refreshments, and see the variety of lodgings available in Coronado. Maps and info will be at the Visitor Center, at 1100 Orange Ave.

Fire Department 19th Annual Open House: October 5-6, 2013, 10am-3pm. Fire apparatus displays, air ambulance, truck rides, music and more. 1001 6th St.

Taste of Coronado
October 17 from 5:30-9pm. Enjoy Coronado's delightful restaurants at the annual event sponsored by the Junior Women's Club. Tickets go on sale Sept 17.

Halloween Events
Oct 31: Downtown Goes Ghostly.
Trick or treat throughout Coronado's downtown as local merchants hand out candy to kids in costumes on October 31. Sponsored by Coronado MainStreet. 

  

November
Silver Strand Half Marathon and 5K race
November 11: Run, walk or skate from Coronado to Imperial Beach. Benefits the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

Coronado Museum of History and Art Holiday Open House
November 16: Museum and the gift shop are open into the evening with dessert refreshments from local restaurants.


Skating by the Sea
The Hotel del Coronado offers a unique Southern California experience --- outdoor ice-skating overlooking the Pacific Ocean, beginning November 21, through New Year's Day.

Jimmy Reilly Memorial Longboard Surf Classic
November 24: The oldest continuous longboard surfing event in San Diego County begins at 7am at Shipwreck Beach, at the Coronado Shores parking lot. Entry forms available at Island Surf (1009 Orange Ave) and Emerald City (1118 Orange Ave), or email jgillem@sbcglobal.net.

  

Annual Holiday Festival at the Hotel del Coronado
November 28 4-7pm: Outdoor ice skating, visits with St. Nick, games and prizes as the hotel lights up for the holidays. The celebration ends with fireworks over the beach at 6:15pm. 

 December
Annual Artisan's Alley Craft Fair
December 1, 2012; Village Elementary school's playground is home for over 170 booths with gifts, art, crafts & food. 600 6th Street

Holiday Celebration
December 7, 2012: The holiday season in Coronado starts when Santa arrives by ferry at the Coronado Ferry Landing at 3:20pm. A festive parade follows, merchants keep their doors open late for shopping. Santa lights the central 75-foot star pine Christmas tree as the community band plays holiday music. 


Annual San Diego Bay Parade of Lights
December 9 and 16: The traditional Christmas present to the cities on San Diego Bay from the boating community has a 1 -1½ hour procession of decorated boats that loop the bay and can be seen from the Coronado shoreline.

Lamb's Players Holiday Celebrations
December is filled with Christmas productions including the annual Festival of Christmas and An American Christmas which is held in the Hotel del Coronado's ballroom. (619) 437-0600

Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade
December 28: "America's Largest Balloon Parade" on Harbor Drive's bay-front.
